iPhone to Be Made In India soon; Tata Group All Set To Acquire Wistron’s iPhone Facility

India is en route to having its first-ever production line for Apple products. As per Businessline’s reports, By the end of April, Tata Group is likely to complete acquisition of Wistron’s iPhone in Bengaluru. Moreover, it has commenced making organizational adjustments at the site. A total of 2,000 employees are anticipated to lose their jobs as a result of the takeover. Meanwhile, 400 mid-level employees are anticipated to see attrition. In addition, four to five senior-level executives have been asked to leave or are in the process of departing.

Speculation suggests that the Indian conglomerate may start producing iPhone 15 after the merger. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 14 are now being produced in Wistron’s Indian plant’s eight production lines.

Since this was Wistron’s only facility in India that produced Apple goods, after Tata takes over the Bengaluru facility, Wistron will no longer have any presence in the Indian market.

The market for Apple goods in India is thought to be worth about $600 million. This acquisition is viewed as a significant step, particularly when Apple is considering moving its manufacturing operations from China to India. The plans about relocation of the California-based Corporation are a result of rivalry between China and United States. As a result, last year the company disclosed that it is considering relocating about 25% of its global production to India.

Wistron, Pegatron, and Foxconn are the three Taiwanese companies that build Apple goods in India; Wistron is departing the country, whilst Foxconn and Pegatron have expanded their production facilities there.

Other actions taken by Tata Group to enhance its relationship with Apple include increasing employment at the facility in Tamil Nadu where iPhone components are produced. There are also rumours that Tata will probably buy Pegatron’s iPhone production facilities.

The first apple store in India will be opening at Jio World Drive Mall in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex.
