Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of information technology and railways, said that the first semiconductor production unit will be announced in the coming weeks. He also added that the semiconductor program would cater to India’s growing need for electronics manufacturing.
He was giving a speech at the 2023 CII Partnership Conference.
In 2023, mobile phone exports are projected to reach $9.5 to $10 billion, with 99% of smartphones sold domestically being built in India, according to Ashwini Vaishnaw, who estimated that the Indian electronics manufacturing sector is close to $87 billion.

He continued by saying that the government has spoken to almost all of the stakeholders and has established credibility, so the semiconductor program is almost at a turning point.
“As of now, we have essentially communicated with every industry player imaginable, including suppliers, producers of photolithography equipment, chemical and gas companies, and equipment makers. A very high say-to-do ratio is the obvious criterion that we have created”, Mr. Vaishnaw added.
