When we think of ordering food, like a reflex, Zomato and Swiggy are the two delivery platforms that pop up in our heads. Don’t you agree? These two platforms revolutionized food delivery by ensuring to satiate our food cravings with just a click of a button, within the comfort of our homes. Until now, Swiggy and Zomato have been dominating the food delivery tech space. But now it seems like there is a new competitor in town which is threatening their duopoly. It appears that the new platform ONDC (Open Network Digital Commerce) is challenging their dominance. The new government-owned platform has initiated a price war across some of the country’s largest restaurant brands.
The USP (Unique Selling Price) of ONDC is that unlike Zomato and Swiggy it allows restaurants to sell food to its consumers directly, without the need for a third party. The ONDC food tech platform has been operational since September 2022. Although it started to gain traction only recently. According to reports, the platform has exceeded the threshold of 10,000 daily orders. Internet users have compared the costs of food delivery from ONDC, Swiggy, and Zomato and discovered ONDC to be less expensive.
When compared to Swiggy and Zomato prices, ONDC ordering platforms like Paytm, Magicpin, and PhonePe offer discounts of 30% to 80% on names like McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Behrouz Biryani, and Cafe Coffee Day.
There isn’t a separate ONDC app available for download from the Play Store. Instead, ONDC functions similarly to UPI, allowing it to be integrated into already-existing apps like Paytm, PhonePe, Meesho, etc. More than 29,000 sellers selling more than 36 lakh products make up ONDC.
The Paytm app allows for the use of ONDC. Enter “ONDC” in the search bar of the Paytm app. You can now place a food order from the restaurant. It should be noted that as the platform is new, not all restaurants are currently selling food through it.
