The legendary Indian actor with a net worth estimation of $400 million, finally succeeded in winning interim legal protection of his image, name voice alogn with his “special style of dialogue delivery.”
What Amitabh Bachchan wanted was granted at the Delhi High Court. Not only this, as per the Court’s order now content showing impersonations of Amitabh Bachchan online has to be removed now.
Bachchan’s case came to the fore with a recent scam in India where fraudsters used Amitabh Bachchan’s quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati? in order to fooling people.
Harish Salve, the top lawyer for Bachchan, told the court that there are people who are making T-shirts with Bachchan’s face on them, some of them are selling his poster. Not only that, people have also registered a domain name on Big B’s name as amitabhbachchan.com,” .
One of the topmost impersonators of Amitabh Bachchan, Shashikant Pedwal has so far done over three thousand shows impersonating Amitabh Bachchan. Pedwal says this is upsetting, but not a shock.’Misusing name of the top stars can never be acceptible, though for people like me, Mr Bachchan’s existence has been a boon.”
But he is not the only one feeling the effects of the decision, with the court order impacting a thriving mini industry of lookalikes who have attained fame by perfecting the art of impersonating Bachchan.
Arif Khan, the president of All India Look Alike Association on the news says that lookalike artists and impersonators are already worried over this news. Khan reveals there are already around thirty Bachchan lookalikes across the country. He regrets saying “Impersonating these famous cine stars was their only job. Now many of these lookalikes are going to lose their job.”
Arif Khan’s association has around five hundred lookalike members. He says that these lookalikes play a big role doing the “patch works” during filming and filling in wherever the lead actor does not have a prominent shot.
