Aaftab Amin Poonawalla is currently jailed in Delhi’s Tihar Jail on accusations of the brutal murder of his live-in lover Shraddha Walkar. While jailed, the murder suspect apparently turns to chess to pass the time.
According to jail officials , Aaftab spends his time analyzing chess moves while frequently being held in prison. He also apparently spars occasionally with two other prisoners.
Aaftab, 28, and two other prisoners share a cell, and they routinely play chess on the chess board that is in the cell.
According to reports, Aaftab frequently observes the two other prisoners’ chess games intently and plays both the white and black pieces whenever he has the opportunity.
According to sources, Aaftab plays both sides alone, strategizes, and plays both sides.”the wicked Aaftab loves chess and prepares different strategies and plays the board from both ends.” They said that he is a “excellent player, in this game of checkmate.”
Two prisoners who are also on trial for robbery . According to reports, the accused Aaftab spends much of his time playing chess by himself in jail rather than talking to his cellmates.
Aaftab organises his own moves against himself, according to informants in jail, and the Delhi Police has been suspicious of this from the beginning. “Aaftab is incredibly crafty. His every action appears to be a deliberate conspiracy, and it appears that he is playing alone on both sides.
A senior officer of the Delhi Police who is allegedly keeping track of Aaftab’s calculated actions during the investigation stated, “Sometimes it seems like the investigating officer is not us but the accused Aaftab, at whose behest the Delhi Police department is going places. It is evident in the way the police has got entangled in his already woven story.”
After an attack on a jail van transporting Shraddha’s suspected killer outside the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Delhi’s Rohini, the jail authorities reportedly enhanced security outside Aaftab Poonawalla’s jail cells and stationed an additional guard outside his barrack.
Aaftab, 28, is being held by Delhi Police as they piece together the crime. He is accused of killing Shraddha and dismembering her body, storing the cut body parts in a refrigerator before discarding them.
