The Indian Army said in a statement on Wednesday evening that a search team had found the INSAS rifle and magazine at the Bathinda military station.

Army and police joint teams will now conduct a forensic examination on the weapon to learn more about it, according to a statement from the Army’s South Western Command. The total number of rounds in the firearm will only be known following forensic examination.

The collaborative investigation with the Punjab Police is ongoing. Every available support is being offered. The Army has reaffirmed that ‘no one’ has been detained or seized.

According to the FIR filed at Cantonment police station, two people wearing kurta payjama and wielding an INSAS rifle and an axe killed four jawans at Bathinda military station. Both had their faces hidden.

The attackers had been on the run for more than 12 hours since the killing at the military station. The combing operation is still active in the military station. The motive remains unknown, as the military and district police continue to search CCTV footage for evidence.

SP Bathinda (investigation) Ajay Gandhi said, “The shooting was carried out by two people dressed in civil attire. Gandhi is in charge of a police investigation into the Bathinda Military Station. The slain jawans were sleeping in their barracks when they were ambushed”.
