Delhi Police Caught Spoofing Gang Which Tried To Trick Ministers & Police Officials

A spoofing gang was arrested by the Delhi Police after conducting a series of raids. The raids were conducted in different parts of the country. The gang had allegedly spoofed numbers of the officers of a chief minister. From senior intelligence and government officials, to con politicians and some IPS officers on different pretexts.

One of the same was, providing a ticket for the upcoming elections of 2024. Interestingly, the suspects even extorted 50 Lakh rupees as an advance payment for providing tickets for the upcoming elections from the politicians.

They very smartly converted the entire amount to cryptocurrency and save the same in a wallet. Police seized the mobile phone in which the wallet name ‘Octafx’ was operating. The wallet contained an amount of about $59,000. They were using a spoofing application named ‘Viberplus’.

The plan went like this

The gang did research to execute their plan. They looked for contact of senior officials by surfing government sites. They registered the contact numbers on the application. Following that, calls were made to get to the real plan of action.

FIR was lodged by IPS Officer

FIR was filed with police on February 17th on the complaint received from a government official. After that, Delhi Police started tracking the case. As per the case that is registered, two of the calls were made on January 31 and February 16 to a senior IPS Officer. The calls were made to demand some favors in relation to the transfer of some police officers.

The caller was trying to imitate the voice of an official from the office of a chief minister. He asked the IPS officer to meet a politician and also submitted the names of 3 police officials for the transfer as a “test task”.

The IPS officer was smart enough to check the call which resulted to be a fake one. As soon as the officer got to know that the call was fake, he lodged an FIR at the police station under the sections of fraud and cheating.

Delhi Police conducted the investigation as follows

After analyzing the IPDR (Internet Protocol Address Details Record) logs, police came to the conclusion that the call came from a spoofed contact. The technical team of police testified that Viberplus was used for all this. Finally, the suspects were arrested after this.
