Gautam Adani tops the list of Asia’s philanthropists

Adani Group chief Gautam Adani and founder of giant tech company HCL, Shiv Nadar, have been listed as the Forbes Asia’s Heroes of Philanthropy toppers. Along with the two Indian-origin Malaysian businessman Brahmal Vasudevan has also been included in the list.

New Delhi. 6 December 2022. Forbes Asia’s Heroes of Philanthropy list was released today. In the 16th edition of this list along with Indian billionaire businessmen – Gautam Adani, Shiv Nadar, Ashok Soota’s name has also been included. Along with them, Malaysian-Indian billionaire businessman Brahmal Vasudevan and his lawyer wife Shanti Kandia have also been listed in it.

The press release issued by Forbes says that this ‘un-ranked list’ has given place to those people who have shown personal commitment to philanthropic work in the Asia-Pacific region.

As per the reports by Forbes, Adani donated Rs 60,000 crore ($7.7 billion) only in June this year on his 60th birthday. This amount donated by him makes him the biggest philanthropist in India. The amount has been donated by Adani to the Adani Foundation, which was established in 1996. This amount will be used in healthcare, education and skill development.

HCL founder Shiv Nadar has also been named among the most philanthropic individuals in India, having donated over a billion dollars from his wealth during the past few decades through the Shiv Nadar Foundation. This year Nadar has donated Rs 1,160 crore ($142 million). Prominent tech tycoon Ashok Soota has also donated 600 crores ($75 million) to his foundation for medical research this year.

In addition, Malaysian-Indian billionaire businessman Brahmal Vasudevan and his lawyer wife Shanti Kandia have donated Rs 93 crore ($11 million) this year only.
