Heavy avalanche in J&K
Heavy avalanche has been reported in the upper reaches of Gulmarg Skiing Resort in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, 1 February 2023. Officials said that there is a possibility of casualties in the avalanche. At the same time, it is also being told that many foreign travelers have also come under the grip of avalanches.
ANI provided information through its official Twitter. News Agency tweeted, ” #WATCH | J&K: Avalanche hit the Afarwat peak at famous ski resort in Gulmarg. Rescue operation launched by Baramulla Police along with other agencies. Reports of some skiers being trapped are being corroborated, Baramulla Police say.”
Regarding the incident, Baramulla district police tweeted, “Avalanche hit the Afarwat peak #HapathKhud at famous ski resort in #Gulmarg. Rescue operation has been launched by Baramulla Police along with other agencies. Reports of some skiers being trapped are being corroborated. More details shall follow,” through its official Twitter handle.
Two persons were found dead, whereas four people rescued so far. Several others, including some skiers, are feared trapped.
The bodies of two persons were retrieved from under the snow, they said, adding that fortunately, we were able to rescue four other persons”.
The identity of the deceased is being ascertained, they said. The rescue operation is on to find out if there is any other person trapped, they added.
