Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, has sparked a new controversy with his comment that Mahatma Gandhi did not have any university degree in law or any other subjects but just a high school diploma.
He didn’t say this to demean the father of the nation but to underline that people should aim for more than just curriculum-based university education.

Speaking at an event in Gwalior on Thursday, to emphasize on education is more than having a degree, he said –  “Who would say Gandhiji was not educated? I don’t think anybody would say that. But did you know that he did not have a single university degree or qualification? There are many of us who think that Mahatma Gandhi had a law degree. No, he did not. His only qualification was a high school diploma. He qualified to practice law. He did not have a law degree but just look how educated he was…Our Father of the Nation,” he added.

He further showered praises on Gandhi for following the path of truth under all circumstances. “Mahatma Gandhi never abandoned truth & identified his inner voice. As a result, he became Father of the Nation”, he said.

The leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party in Telangana mocked the BJP leader over this statement, “WhatsApp university graduates after all,” he tweeted along with the video.
It’s noteworthy that Manoj Sinha is a tech graduate in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) BHU. He has also pursued his M. Tech. from the same institute.

Meanwhile, the great-grandson of Bapu, Tushar Gandhi reacted to this incident via a series of tweets. He wrote, “I’ve dispatched a copy of Bapu’s autobiography to LG of Jammu & Kashmir. Hope he gets enlightened.
