Amazon is increasing its investment in India by pledging an extra $15 billion over the following 7 years. Amazon will now have invested $26 billion in India across all of its companies. The announcement was made at a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.
Jassy stated in a tweet that they had “discussed Amazon’s commitment to invest $26B in India by 2030; working together, we will support startups, create jobs, enable exports, and empower individuals and small businesses to compete globally.”
By 2025, Amazon has promised to digitise 10 million small businesses, enabling $20 billion in exports, and generate 2 million employment in India, according to a blog post on Amazon.in. Over 6.2 million small companies have already been digitalized by Amazon India, which has also facilitated over $7 billion in exports and produced over 1.3 million direct and indirect jobs.
The business just celebrated ten years in India. “Creating an Amazon in India, for India, has been an amazing journey. Really, this is only the beginning. The future is promising, according to Manish Tiwary, VP and national manager, Consumer Business, Amazon India, in a blog post for the firm as it marked the company’s ten-year anniversary here. “With a young, vibrant population, rising income levels, and increasing penetration of the internet and social media, the future is exciting,” he added.
