On Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi received permission from a court in Delhi to obtain a regular passport for a period of three years after losing his MP rights following his expulsion from parliament.

Mr. Gandhi had moved toward the court for a no-complaint declaration (NOC) after he gave up his conciliatory identification upon his exclusion as an MP.

“I’m mostly permitting your application. Not for a considerable length of time, but rather three years,” the appointed authority told Mr. Gandhi’s legal counselor.
The previous Congress boss required the court’s leeway since he is blamed, among others, in the Public Envoy case, including illegal tax avoidance and misappropriation of assets, recorded by BJP pioneer Subramanian Swamy.

The court had asked Mr. Swamy, a former BJP MP, to respond to Mr. Gandhi’s request by Friday.

According to Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vaibhav Mehta, the right to travel is a fundamental right. However, the courts have not restricted the Congress leader’s movement. The leader has traveled multiple times without requiring permission.

The magistrate stated that when Mr. Gandhi was granted bail in December 2015, the court did not impose any travel restrictions on him.

Rahul is not a member of the Lok Sabha

Mr. Gandhi was disqualified as a Lok Sabha member after his conviction in a defamation case against PM Modi’s surname.
Mr. Swamy filed a private criminal complaint against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others, accusing them of cheating. This complaint serves as the foundation for the National Herald case.

Mr. Swamy has been accused of cheating and misappropriating funds in order to acquire ownership English daily newspaper, National Herald.
