SIA arrests Key Accused From Delhi In J-K’s Narco-Terror Case

The Special Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested a key accused in a case linked to the smuggling of arms, explosives and narcotics from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, officials said on Saturday. The accused identified as Mohammad Javed who was wanted in the Narco terror case registered at Poonch police station, was arrested from Delhi, the official added.

The official further said that the accused had fled the scene after his three accomplices were arrested along with a huge cache of arms, explosives, and narcotics near the border fence in the Karmara area of Poonch on the intervening night of May 30 and 31. “Brief facts of the case are that on May 30 this year, an attempt was made by four associates in a narco terror module to smuggle drugs and explosives into India across the border fence at Poonch,” the official said.

The accused persons were intercepted by Sikh LI and apprehended with arms, ammunition, IEDs and heroin. After investigation, it was revealed that the group of four persons (of which one had absconded from the spot) were being supervised by key accused Md Javed who was also absconding.

Upon technical surveillance and human intelligence, it was ascertained that Md Javed was hiding in Delhi, where a team of SIA led by Insp Lakhvir was dispatched and Md. Javed was apprehended. The SIA Jammu took over the case on July 6 this year.

Further investigation into aspects of cross border operation of this narco terror syndicate which is found smuggling arms, explosives and narcotics consignments across the border is ongoing at SIA Jammu. “So also aspects of amassing disproportionate wealth in short periods of time as is seen in the instant case is being investigated,” the official added.
