Support of New Security Mechanism For Adhar Authentication By UIDAI

The UIDAI recently has rolled out new security mechanism which is to support robust fingerprint-based Aadhaar authentication.

Aadhaar-based fingerprint authentication has a support of a new security system. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has also launched a support for quicker detection of spoofing attempts too.

With the technical initiative of Ministry of Electronics & IT, the UIDAI has gotten the artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) based security mechanism doen inhouse.  The uniquness attached with it utilises both finger pictures and finger minutia for verifying the liveness of the fingerprint captured. Now resultantly,  a result, Aadhaar authentication transactions have become even more secure and reliable.

The move will help industries like banking and finance, telecom, and government. The bottom of the pyramid will also benefit since it will improve the Aadhaar-enabled payment system and prevent malicious attempts by unscrupulous individuals.

The new security system is now fully operational which will be utilized for fingerprint-based Aadhaar authentication. The migration and rollout finally happened after months of UIDAI guidance and consultation with its user agencies and partners.

For assisting any user agency even if that has not yet migrated in opting for the new protected authentication method ASAP. And for this the UIDAI regional offices along with its headquarter are in contact with all entities.

The usage of Aadhaar-based authentication transactions is on the rise due to its proven quality as a facilitator for availing several services along with its welfare benefits. Last year in the last week of December month,  of Aadhaar authentication transactions’ cumulative number had reached  88.29 billion where as an average 70 million transactions are seen every day.
