World Cup: Should the position of T20I coach for Rahul Dravid be filled? After India’s World Cup loss, Harbhajan Singh has some words to say

T20 World Cup: Harbhajan Singh wants Ashish Nehra or someone similar to replace him as India’s T20I coach. His approach is based on the belief that recently retired players ought to work as T20 coaches.

According to Harbhajan Singh, India could employ coaches from among the players who have lately left the T20I setup. After the semifinal game, Harbhajan told India Today that a player like Ashish Nehra might work well with Hardik Pandya as the captain.

In an exclusive interview, Harbhajan remarked, “Get a coach for the T20s who has recently resigned from cricket, someone like Ashish Nehra. And for leadership, Hardik Pandya is my preference.”

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar appeared to be thinking along the similar lines when he predicted that Hardik Pandya would lead this Indian team despite KL Rahul serving as vice captain. In India’s semi-final loss to England, the all-rounder batted brilliantly and assisted India in posting a respectable score despite a shaky beginning.

Pandya, who scored 63 off 33 balls, would have hoped that India would put up a strong fight in the game’s second innings, but England captain Jos Buttler and Alex Hales’ bowling attack was destroyed by their massive 170-run partnership, the largest in the T20 World Cup semifinals.

In a different interview with India Today, Harbhajan criticised the Indian batting order, saying that the team bats for the first 10 to 12 overs of an ODI match as if there are still 40 overs remaining in the innings. He claimed that this has long been an issue for India and that it merits investigation.

India has been without an ICC trophy since the team’s last victory in 2013. With this defeat, the wait has grown longer. India hasn’t been able to win an ICC championship since MS Dhoni retired.
