Weather Update: 7 Degrees Chills The Capital

Weather Update: The national capital was still reeling from the cold wave on Wednesday morning, with the lowest temperature standing at 7 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Palam, Delhi, was 7.8 degrees Celsius, while Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 8.4 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

When the minimum temperature is less than or equal to 10 degrees Celsius below normal and the highest temperature is at least 4.5 degrees below normal, it is considered a chilly day. A severe cold day occurs when the highest temperature is 6.5 degrees below average.

Delhi’s Weather Update

On Monday, the national capital saw a ‘severe’ cold day, with the maximum temperature plunging 10 degrees below average in certain areas.

The Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi’s major meteorological station, reported a highest temperature of 15.6 degrees Celsius on Monday, six degrees below average and the lowest day temperature in December since December 17, 2020, according to the media.

On Tuesday, dense to extremely dense fog occurred in areas of the National Capital Region (NCR), Haryana, Punjab, west Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan.

The sun obscured across broad swaths of northwest India. Dense to extremely dense fog prevailed in various portions of the National Capital Region, Haryana, Punjab, west Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) defines ‘very dense’ fog as visibility between 0 and 50 metres, ‘dense’ fog as visibility between 51 and 200 meters, ‘moderate’ fog as visibility between 201 and 500 metres, and ‘shallow’ fog as visibility between 501 and 1,000 metres.
