Saudi Arabia Approaches IPL Owners To Set up World’s Richest League in The Gulf

The Indian Premier League’s owners have been asked to consider the Saudi government’s proposal to establish the world’s richest Twenty20 league. Saudi Arabia’s government has been effectively putting resources into different games. Having advanced into Equation 1 with the Saudi Middle Eastern Prix as well, their next objective is to amplify the undiscovered possibility of cricket.

Saudi Arabia approaches IPL owners

The Gulf state has signed on as a sponsor for the IPL 2023 season. They have also planed to create the richest T20 league in the world. Their Government have approached the IPL owners about the idea.

Under the rules of the Leading Group of Control in India (BCCI), Indian players are not permitted to take part in T20 associations abroad. However, this proposition from the Saudi Bedouin government delegates for their most extravagant T20 association BCCI to repair its guidelines.

The Saudi Arabian League has been under discussion for nearly a year, according to a report in The Age. The International Cricket Council (ICC) and its member nations, including Australia, would have to give their permission for the league.

The Gulf state has been criticised for attempting to hide their human rights record by investing heavily in major sports. This also includes the purchase of Premier League club Newcastle United by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

Indian players are currently prohibited from participating in international leagues by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, the Indian board may alter its position in response to a proposal from the Saudi Arabian government.

Earlier, ICC Chairman Greg Barclay said that Saudi Arabia wants to put a lot of money into cricket. After investing in other sports like football and Formula One, they are their next target is Cricket.
Barclay stated, “If you look at other sports they’ve participated in, cricket is something I imagine would be attractive to them.”
