A waitress at a cafe in Japan was fired after it was discovered that she had mixed her own blood into a customer’s cocktail.

The Mondaiji Con Cafe Daku, which loosely translates to ‘Problem Child Dark Café’, hires waitresses who wear dark and goth-style make-up.

The café in Sapporo announced the news in a tweet, saying that they had fired the unidentified woman who served customers drinks called orikaku, which were made with fruits, colorful syrups, and her own blood. The cafe also closed for a day to replace all of the contaminated glasses.

Cafe tweeted, “It seems that there was a girl who was risked and mixed with Orikaku, but she was dismissed this time. Also, today’s business will be closed to replace all glasses. Such an act is no different from part-time job terrorism and is absolutely not acceptable”, through its Twitter handle.

Notably, at the request of a customer, the waitress infused her blood into the drink. The cafe opened in March in Sapporo City’s Susukino entertainment district, and it costs 2,500 yen (approximately $25) for customers to drink as much as they want.

Dr. Zento Kitao, speaking about the incident, told the Japanese magazine Flash, “Drinking other people’s blood is an extremely dangerous act”.

“Although cases of people becoming infected after drinking another person’s blood are rare, major diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, and syphilis can be transmitted through blood. If there are wounds in the mouth, blood transmissions are easily transmitted”, he added.

He recommended that the fired employee and clients who drank her blood-infused cocktails be tested for blood-borne infections.
