Blood Banks for Dogs: Humans most faithful friends

In this human-centric world in case of an emergency the blood banks are always there for us humans. But what about dogs,  our four-legged friends?

There is hope afterall as Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University TANUVAS came up with the Blood4Pet app in 2019. It is an an initaiative by the university to help ‘petparents’ and veterianarians to save canine lives.

It is already a very well equipped setup with a  has a state-of-the-art blood blank and ambulance among other amenities.

Dog lovers and entrepreneurs, sibling duo Mehak and Zahaan have also launched an app called Blood Hound, to help track dog blood donors in case of such a requirement or an emergency. It works on the basis on the data it has and finds the best matches based on artificial intelligence.

Most dog lovers and owners use social media and dog lovers groups to circulate messagges for any dog related emergency. In such a scenario an App like Blood Hound or Blood4Pet can a real blessing.

A friend of the co-founders and a pet parent was in a similar situation which led to the making of the App. In a situation where dog blood banks like TANUVAS are not common there is no easy way of finding a matching donor. This is how the idea of Blood Hound App came about. It helps in finding a matching donor easily and quickly.

The App is quite easy to use. All you need to do is register your dog as a blood donor. It follows the same procedure as for a human being and will ask for details like dog’s breed, age, gender, weight, blood group, location and contact details. This way in an emergency a potential dog blood donor’s parent can be contacted and the life of human’s most faithful friend, a dig can be saved.

It is a good idea if more and more dog parents register their dogs. This will help in creating a larger donor list and it will help  in making the tracking process more efficient.

This world is not owned by humans alone. Specially dogs have been most faithful to humans. Its time that humans too made this planet more inclusive and not just for different categories of humans but for all living beings.

Paw-sivetively a good effort by TANUVAS and the like of Mehak And Zeshaan. Such efforts could save a four legged soul and we all must be part of this paw-sitive effort. Bow! Oh wow!
