‘Light As Cotton Blanket,’15 Years Old Chinese Girl Dies Losing 25 Kgs To Impress Her Crush

A teenage girl from China dies after losing 25 kgs to impress a boy who likes thin girls. The Chinese girl resorted to extreme methods to lose weight, which resulted in her tragic death.

The story of a 15 years old girl named Xiaoling from Tongguan in Guangdong Province, Southeast China, has provoked discussion on the unhealthy beauty standards that contributed to her death after she died within a week of reducing weight quickly to impress a boy she adored. After her drastic weight loss, she was only half the normal weight for her age.

Since he preferred thin girls, the young man turned down Xiaoling. This prompted her to devise a weight loss plan which began in January, where she solely consumed water. She became more motivated to reduce weight in the hopes of winning the boy’s love.

Her parents initially thought that weight loss was common for teenagers.

But her condition was getting serious day by day. Xiaoling violently resisted medical treatment, jumping out of moving cars and upstairs windows. Eventually, her parents managed to have her admitted to a private clinic, where she was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa.

The girl, 165 centimeters tall and 24.8 kilograms, arrived at a Tongguan hospital unconscious with respiratory failure and severe malnutrition. Due to the rapid deterioration of her condition, she was urgently transferred to a pediatric hospital in Shenzhen.

Her Medical Condition

In the emergency room, medical professionals found that Xiaoling was unable to breathe on her own and had pupils that were insensitive to light, signs of serious brain stem injury, and a coma.

She also had 14 more ailments that were connected to one another and affected her entire body.

Her weight was characterized by doctors as being “light as a cotton blanket.”

She spent more than 20 days in the intensive care unit, but her body stopped responding.

Netizens Reacted

One person asked, “Why do so many people consider being slim a standard for girls”.

“We have to learn how to love ourselves. Everyone is beautiful”, said another.

In June last year, a 30-year-old woman with an eating disorder in northern china whose weight dropped to just 25 kgs was rushed to hospital with multiple organ failure in a case which shocked doctors.
