Community Unites To Propel Judoka Towards Paris Olympics

Talented judoka Jasleen Saini, who hopes to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, has received the much-needed push from a number of kindhearted people.

In the most recent senior open Asian Judo Championship held in Taipei, Saini won the gold medal. Saini believed that by participating in the forthcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou and earning enough points, he would qualify for the Olympics under the continental quota.

To fulfill his training requirements in Georgia and participate in the Olympic qualifiers, the young athlete needed financial assistance.

The first person to extend a helping hand was Dubai-based businessman Dr. SPS Oberoi, who reached out to Saini’s coach, Amarjit Shastri. Dr. Oberoi contributed Rs 1 lakh from the funds of “Sarbat-Da-Bhala,” a charitable trust he established.

Dr. Satnam Singh Nijjar, a former head of the Batala-based Gurdaspur Planning Board, was another significant contributor. Dr. Nijjar gave Saini’s campaign a donation of Rs. 1 lakh. Rajan Kumar, the North Alabama University’s official representative in India, also sent a kind donation of Rs 1 lakh. A number of Batala businessmen who are well-known for producing sporting items have also promised to make large contributions to keep Saini’s Olympic dream alive. As locals reached out and offered their support, Coach Shastri showed his gratitude.

Jasleen Saini’s Olympic adventure has received fresh life thanks to the kind deeds of these people and groups. He may now continue his training and work towards his goal of representing his nation on the world stage.
