Finally Win For RCB, Can The Challengers Still Qualify For Playoffs In WPL 2023?

On Wednesday, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated UP Warriorz comfortably by five wickets to finally make their debut win in the WPL 2023. The Warriors took on the challengers at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. In order to keep their hopes alive for the playoffs, RCB needed a win.

Kanika Ahujia was the star performer, scoring 46 runs to lead RCB’s comeback and sharing a crucial 60-run stand with Richa Ghosh for the sixth wicket in the chase for 136 runs.

Key Highlights

After deciding to bowl, the Challengers put in an excellent bowling effort to dismiss the UP Warriorz for 135 in 19.3 overs. The top order was collapsed by Megan Schutt and Sophie Devine. At the end of 9 overs, the UP Warriorz were 5 wickets down for a score of 31 runs. But on the other hand, Elegance Harris added 69 runs with Deepti Sharma, who played a very important role in managing the total score of the Warriorz.

Ellyse Perry, with the ball in hand, sent back the duo in just three deliveries, limiting the UP to a score that was below par. Perry was perfect in the first half, despite being introduced late.

The openers of RCB were sent back to the pavilion cheaply. But the power-packed performance of Kanika Ahujia smashing 46 runs in 30 deliveries, led RCB to their first maiden win of the tournament. The Challengers finished off the match in the 18th over, helping them to gain some net run rate as well.

After the first win for RCB in the tournament, the challengers are left with two more games in WPL 2023. The Royals are now left to play their remaining 2 matches against the Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians.

The UP Warriorz is also left with two more games, which they will be playing against the Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals.

Now, after game number 13, the Warriors stand in third place with 4 points. On the other hand, the Challengers are in the 4th position with 2 points.
