Messi broke Pele’s record: After two goals in the final match, Messi now has a total of 13 goals in the FIFA World Cup. While Pele has 12 goals.

Most wins in the World Cup: Argentina’s victory in the FIFA World Cup 2022 final on Sunday (December 18) was Messi’s 17th win in 26 matches played in the World Cup. He has now equaled former Germany striker Miroslav Klose, and is the joint most successful player in World Cup matches.

First player to score in all knockout matches: Messi became the first player to score in the group stage, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final in a single World Cup season.

Golden Balls: Messi became the first player in FIFA World Cup history to win multiple Golden Ball awards. He won his first Golden Ball in the 2014 season and was awarded his second Golden Ball on Sunday night after playing a big role in Argentina’s victory.
