Women Hockey: Indian Junior Team Beats South Africa ‘A’ 4-0

The Indian junior women’s hockey team ended its tour of South Africa undefeated with a 4-0 win over the ‘A’ side of the host country.

Deepika Sr. broke the deadlock in the 13th minute by converting from the spot after South Africa conceded a penalty stroke.

A few minutes later, Neelam (15th minute) doubled India’s lead by converting a penalty corner. Annu (35th) and Sunlita Toppo (50th) scored in the second half to seal the victory late Saturday night.
The South Africa tour was a part of the team’s preparations for the U-21 Asia Cup, which serves as a qualifier for the upcoming FIH Junior Women’s World Cup.

Last match was a draw

The Indian team had earlier defeated the South African U-21 team in all three games. The visitors were held to a 4-4 draw by South African ‘A’ team in their last match on Friday.

Defeated the host in all 3 games

Winning 4-0 against South Africa’s ‘A’ team, the Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team  in their final game of the tour finishes the tour unbeaten. The South African U-21 team was defeated by Indian team in all three games. In their last contest, both the teams were held to a 4-4 draw.

Deepika, Neelam, Sunita and Annu contributed

The deadlock was broken by Deepika Sr. in the 13th minute when she converted a penalty stroke into goal. Neelam (15′) a few minutes later, doubled the lead of India by again converting a penalty corner. Then in the second half Sunita Toppo (50′)  and Annu (35′) scored to seal the victory.

8-0 victory in the last match

The Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team had already registered a huge margin victory of 8-0 against host South Africa during its second match seven days ago on Saturday on 18th of February.
