Women’s World Boxing Championships: Nitu Ghanghas Wins Her First Gold Medal, Defeating Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg In Final

Nitu Ghanghas, an Indian boxer, defeated Mongolian opponent Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg in the Women’s World Boxing Championships 48 kg (minimum weight) category final to earn her first gold medal.

Nitu Ghanghas had dominated the entire competition and was expected to deliver in the championship match, which she did by a unanimous 5-0 decision. While she won her first three World Championships matches by Referee Stopped Contest (RSC), she won the semifinal fight by a split decision that went 5-2 to her advantage. In her quarterfinal match, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist defeated Kazakhstan’s Alua Balkibekova.

While the Indian fighter was leading 3-2 after the second round, both fighters were given yellow cards in the third and final rounds, and a point was deducted from the Mongolian fighter, resulting in the final result showing that the Indian fighter was deemed the better boxer in the bout by all five referees. This was India’s 11th gold medal in the event’s existence.

Saweety Boora, another Indian finalist, will compete in the 81 kg category later in the evening, while two more fighters, Nikhat Zareen, and Lovlina Borgohain, will compete for the gold title on Sunday. (March 26). The Indian contingent will be praying that all three of them win gold.
