Indian trust over Russia is good news for the world fraternity. On G20 presidency a recent Indian statement says, Russia will be part of all G20 processes.

Beginning its year-long Group of Twenty presidency on Thursday 01 December 2022, India along with the previous president Indonesia, played a significant role in finalizing a joint communique at the last summit in Bali witnessing grave divisions between the West and Russia.

In its recent statement on the first day of its presidency, India made it clear that it expects Russia to be an active participant of all the processes of the Group of Twenty, while it assumes the G20 presidency against the backdrop of present differences among the members about and over the Ukraine war.

The Indian external affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi pointed out that Russia being a member of the Group of Twenty, it’s being expected by India to be participating in the processes of the global platform.

India was expected to respond to this global questions about the divisions within the G20 over Ukraine- Russia struggle, being the President of the G20.

The MEA spokesperson also noted that the G20 works on the significant  principle of consensus, thus the efforts by India presiding the grouping of the twenty largest economies of the globe, are going to be aimed at building consensus.

”This was the Indian stance during the Bali G20 Summit in November last month and this approach is going to continue,” Bagchi added.

As one of the “most difficult issues” for India’s G20 presidency, German ambassador Philipp Ackermann says that proceeding further with coping to the fallout of Russian invasion on Ukraine is going to be a challenge.

So far India has not joined the West in open verbatim criticism against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. India also has sharply increased buying of Russian fertilizers and crude oil  in recent months. Nevertheless, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during the Samarkand SCO summit to Russian President Vladimir Putin that – It is not time for war today.
