Israel Airstrikes In Syria’s Damascus Area, Wounds Two Soldiers

Israel has staged fresh rounds of airstrikes in the Damascus area of Syria early Thursday.  It is said that the missiles have wounded two Syrian soldiers.

Israel stage airstrikes in Syria’s Damascus

According to Syria’s defence ministry, “At around 01:20 am (10:20 GMT), the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial aggression from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights targeting several positions in the vicinity of Damascus.”

The ministry did not provide any details on the targets and said that the trikes injured two soldiers and caused material damage.

The ministry added that Syria’s air defence intercepted several missiles.

Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on targets inside government-controlled parts of Syria in recent years, including attacks on the Damascus and Aleppo airports, but it rarely acknowledges specific operations.

Target is Iran-allied militant groups: Israel

Israel said that it targets bases of Iran-allied militant groups, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which has sent thousands of fighters to support Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces.

Last week, an Israeli airstrike targeting the airport in the northern city of Aleppo put it out of commission for two days.

On March 7, three people were killed in an Israeli strike at the airport that was put out of service. It reopened three days later.

Along with airports, Israel has also targeted seaports in government-held areas in an apparent attempt to prevent Iranian arms shipments to militant groups backed by Tehran, including Hezbollah.
