Khalistan Demonstration Unacceptable; Safety Of Indian Diplomats First: Canada

The scheduled rally by pro-Khalistan elements at Indian posts throughout the nation has been called “unacceptable” by the Canadian government, raising worries for the safety of its senior envoys.

The foreign affairs minister of Canada, Melanie Joly, stated in a statement posted to Twitter on Monday night: “Canada takes its obligations under the Vienna Conventions protecting the safety of diplomats very seriously. As a result of some offensive internet advertisements for a protest scheduled for July 8, Canada continues to be in constant contact with Indian authorities.

Anita Anand, the minister of national defence, also tweeted a similar remark, stating that the online protest materials were unacceptable and did not speak for Canadians. Canada will continue to take considerable responsibility for ensuring the safety of foreign diplomats working here.

After pro-Khalistan elements distributed a poster with violent images, the words “Kill India,” and images of India’s high commissioner in Ottawa, Sanjay Kumar Verna, consul general in Toronto, Apoorva Srivastava, and consul general in Vancouver, Manish, there has been an increase in concern over the security of Indian missions and envoys.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC), the nation’s foreign ministry, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), which is in charge of maintaining diplomatic security, and the local police in Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver have all already been informed of India’s worries.

Following news of an arson attack at the Indian embassy in San Francisco, security concerns have risen.

Senior Indian officials claimed that the Canadian government was being “sensitised” to these issues after receiving these details and sharing them with them.

The person further stated that it appears as though law enforcement officials have already improved security patrols at the Canadian missions.

The Indian ambassador to Washington, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and the consul general in SF TV, Nagendra Prasad, were featured on a poster that was distributed. It was identical to those targeted against Canadian government officials.

A top Indian official stated, “The arson in the US indicates the danger of violence is genuine.

The ‘Khalistan freedom rally’ is being held in honour of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot dead on June 18 in the parking lot of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia. To go to the Indian Consulate in Toronto, one will depart from a business district in the GTA municipality of Malton. Nijjar’s gurdwara’s departure for the Indian Consulate in Vancouver will be followed by another.
