Korea India: All set to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations

India -Korea: The year 2023 brings many new hopes, adventures, and new beginnings for people and various nations. This year is going to be one of the most significant years for India and South Korea’s bilateral relationship. These two Asian tigers will mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.  The bilateral consular relations between India and the Republic Of Korea were established in 1962. But after some discussion was upgraded to Ambassador-level on 10th December 1973, thus completing 50 years in 2023.

To make this Golden Jubilee event memorable for both nations, the Korean Embassy of India in New Delhi is working hard to prepare. According to Chang Jae-bok, Ambassador, of South Korea

Continuing “To celebrate the next year 2023 as the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea and India, there are plans to organize a series of events throughout the year not only in the field of art, culture, language, people-to-people exchange, but also academics, tourism and many more. We also expect many high-level visits from South Korea during next year.” (Speech during 2022 in Korean Embassy).

On December 16, 2022, The Embassy of India, Seoul scheduled a remarkable event as a curtain raiser to celebrate the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Republic of Korea at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Seoul.

The occasion included statements by H.E. Mr. Amit Kumar, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea, and H.E. Mr. Youngsam Choi, Deputy Minister of Political Affairs, ROK MOFA. Ambassador Amit Kumar along with Deputy Minister Youngsam Choi jointly unveiled the logo for the 50th-anniversary celebration. The logo was selected through a contest jointly organized by both Embassies in Seoul and New Delhi.
