The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) revealed that 86 persons have died and 151 have been injured as a result of the recent monsoon rains since June 25.

According to the NDMA, six persons perished and nine others were injured in the past 24 hours of torrential rains across Pakistan.

As severe rain continues to wreak havoc across the country, as many as 97 dwellings have been destroyed.

Punjab had the highest number of fatalities, with 52 persons killed in the torrential rains.

According to an NDMA report, 20 persons perished in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and six died in Balochistan.

The NDMA predicted in April this year that there is a 72% likelihood of disastrous floods in Pakistan in 2023.

Lieutenant General Inam Haider, chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that the quick rise in temperature, glacier melting, and early monsoon might all lead to floods.

Haider stated that the NDMA and Pakistan’s Climate Change Ministry have been monitoring 17 satellites and have installed 36 flood early warning systems.

He further stated that if catastrophic floods like last year occurred again, Pakistan would face a severe economic disaster.

On Saturday, two roofs collapsed in Lahore’s Azhar Town and Shahdara Town localities during the ongoing rainstorm in Pakistan’s Punjab, injuring at least nine persons.

According to the rescue organization, no serious injuries have been reported.

According to the report, all of the injured people were promptly sent to neighboring hospitals for treatment.

Nabeel Javed, Punjab’s relief commissioner, visited the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) control centre, where he was informed of the approaching risk of river flooding.
