Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Trip To The US Could Advance The Chip Supply Agreement

The next trip to the United States by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to strengthen the relationship between the two countries in terms of technology, with a particular emphasis on creating a new semiconductor supply chain. During his two-day visit last week, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that bilateral cooperation in the semiconductor supply chain may provide “substantial results.”

The US-India initiatives on Critical and Emerging technological, the ‘next big thing’ between the two nations to develop a democratic technological ecosystem, have as one of their main objectives this cooperation in the semiconductor industry. In the areas of semiconductors, artificial intelligence and quantum computing, space, new materials, biotech, and next-generation telephony, the programme promises closer collaboration between private sector and scientific institutions.

A preliminary agreement to strengthen private sector cooperation in the semiconductor industry was reached by New Delhi and Washington in March. As part of this agreement, the two nations will support each other’s economic development and ecosystem building. A collaboration mechanism for the two governments to work on semiconductor supply chain resilience will be established with the aid of the memorandum of understanding. Additionally, it will broaden perspectives on the US CHIPS and Science Act as well as India’s Semiconductor Mission.

As artificial intelligence will change economies, society, and national security, PM Modi and President Joe Biden are also expected to have discussions about it, according to Sullivan.

Modi to meet CEOs

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to meet with the CEOs of the top 20 American corporations, including Apple, Amazon, Google, Coca-Cola, and others. The summit will centre on a variety of issues, including prospects for company expansion, lucrative investments, and international relationships. These gatherings will highlight India’s significance as a crucial market for American companies.
