Steve Fabes, An England Citizen Travelling The Globe By Bicycle, Passes Through Manipur

Steve Fabes works as a physician. In 2010, he set off on his cycle trip around all six continents. He is currently in Asia, his sixth continent. He estimated that it might take him five or six years of his life to finish his purpose, and he is coming to terms with that fact every day. He had already completed his goal by the time this piece was filed. He gave his cycle the name Belinda.

My bicycle is a sturdy touring model that is made to last for many years. It’s a Dutch business.  According to Steve, I travel with a tent, sleeping bag, cooking supplies, clothing, medications, books, and tools to fix my bicycle.

Way to Manipur

“The journey from Myanmar to Manipur was pleasant. The roads were beautiful.

It was a fantastic idea to encourage kids to ride bicycles, as I did. At Maria Montessori School Koirengei, where I spoke to students from the sixth grade to the twelfth grade in two shifts and shared my narrative with them using photos and videos I took while on my tour, I had an amazing time. I also responded to any minor questions that kids with inquiring minds asked of me. During my four-day visit in Imphal, the Pedal Attack team was a great help. They showed me around a few areas and are very enthusiastic cyclists. They are wonderful, and they are where I am the happiest in Imphal,” said Steve Fabes.

Why cycle around the world

“I had a salary and a job that I absolutely enjoyed. Why would I leave my friends and family and live on $10 a day counting by the road when I have a very pleasant life with all of them nearby? It was not an easy choice, but in the end I chose to go for it because I genuinely wanted an experience and a new challenge.

Travelling the world and learning about it also makes me feel somewhat healthy and fit. The few things listed above are what motivated me to go. I also don’t want to have any regrets. I just have to go through arose in my thoughts, and I have this concept of traversing the entire planet,” SteveFabes stated.

The benefit of bicycle travel is that it brings you much closer to nature and makes you feel like a part of the scenery. Bicycle travel is also great since it allows you to meet people because it travels slowly. According to how people see me, travelling is the best method to learn about different countries. People frequently ask me questions, occasionally extend hospitality, and occasionally bring me food. It is the best method of transportation in my opinion. I enjoy a challenge and an adventurous spirit. For three or four days, I don’t see a single car. 5200 metres above sea level is the highest mountain I have traversed. I found a lot of breathtaking locations to ride.

I used to record my daily activities in my diary. When I get home from my trip, I’ll write a book on the people, places, and experiences I had. I’ll start working again, but I’d prefer a part-time schedule since I’ll be spending the most of my time writing the book, Steve declares with assurance.

Life is full of joy

“To me, an adventure is something that forces you to face challenges and involves trying something new.

The hardest part is a mental difficulty that comes from not seeing familiar faces for a long time when I bike for years.

I wasn’t an athlete in school. You only need to be persistent to cycle around the world. Extra skills are not required.

After three years in Mexico, I ran out of money in the middle of my adventure. During my trip, I used to write for magazines to make money.

For my tour, there is now crowd fundraising, said Steve.

What makes a day?

“Morning is a great time for reflection, but I don’t need any interruptions, so I get up early and get riding. Post-lunch is the most challenging period of the day since you feel exhausted. In this moment, I listen to music. In the evening, I look for a spot to set up tent and sleep,” said Steve.

Why I have been doing that

Steve and his friend Nicky happen to be cycling through the Bolivian salt flat during a full moon. The 100-mile-long salt plates are the largest in the world and can be seen from space. His enthusiasm for exploration grew during the ride.

“On January 15, 2010, I started cycling and all of a sudden it seemed impossible. I spend four hours at a park. I started to wonder what I was doing and how I was going to explain to people that I have been cycling for five years.  I realise I was stuck with it.

I simply rolled back over and began cycling. I made the decision to live each day as it came and to stop trying to anticipate ahead five or six years, which I found horrifying. Simply by breaking it down into manageable chunks and considering where I am right now and where I want to go next, I believe I can travel the globe.

I began in London and cycled across Europe in the chilly winter before crossing to the southern tip of America and northern Alaska because I was unable to pedal any further north. A few examples include Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar. I will have travelled through 52 different nations and one and a half times around the globe by the time I arrive in Manipur. I’ve driven my bicycle for 65,000 kilometres. Steve grinned, “I’m riding my bike home for a cup of tea next year.
