G-20 Development Working Group meeting
Panaji: Goa hosted the third gathering of the G-20 Development Working Group (DWG). Along with G20 members, nine invited nations, and more than 80 representatives of numerous international and regional organizations attended the summit, which started on May 8 and will be held till May 11. ECHO was launched to begin the second day of the DWG meeting.
On this occasion, a women-led development exhibition was created to highlight the contribution of women to ensuring sustainable development. The exhibition highlighted India’s accomplishments in the areas of nutrition, climate change, and women’s empowerment in the workplace.
Eenam Gambhir and Shri K.K. Nagraj Naidu, Joint Secretaries in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, served as the meeting’s co-chairmen. Via a video message, Shri Dammu Ravi, Secretary (Economic Relations), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officially opened the DWG meeting.
On the second day of the meeting, three separate sessions were scheduled. “The exhibition showed grassroots enterprises, women entrepreneurs, environmentalists, and people working with women’s groups,” said Eenam Gambhir, Joint Secretary (G-20), Union Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in remarks at the event. According to Gambhir, women-led development is a top focus for the working group as indicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, hence the exhibition has been set up for the delegates.
He continued, “There is a focus on nutrition, environment challenges, women-led development, and economic empowerment.” We want to demonstrate to the delegates how grassroots Indian women are driving these efforts, she continued.
During the interval between classes, an exhibition on the subject of women-led development was also opened in association with the Ministry of Women and Child Development. Along with the Goa government, the G20 delegates were able to experience the best of Indian food while also taking in Goa’s rich cultural diversity and legacy. Numerous high figures from the Goa government took part in the occasion’s social programmes.
On May 8, prior to the DWG meeting, a side event on the advancement of women in leadership was planned. In order to promote gender equality and women-led development, talks on the full participation of women in economic, social, cultural, and political decision-making processes took place throughout the event. The first G-20 Development Working Group (DWG) meeting took place in Mumbai from December 13 to December 16 of last year. The second DWG meeting took place in Kumarakom, Kerala, in April of this year.
