Elephants are incredibly intelligent animals. These huge animal (Elephants) has mental powers that exceed our current comprehension. A video of a self-taught elephant peeling bananas recently showed viewers the animals’ broader range of abilities.

However, a video included in a recent study shows that Pang Pha, a particularly distinctive Asian elephant, learned how to peel bananas on her own while living at the Berlin Zoo.

She only employs it on bananas that are yellow-brown in color, smashing them first before shaking off the pulp and removing the thick peel.

According to a study report published in the journal Current Biology on April 10, 2023, the Asian elephant Pang Pha takes the pulp with the tip of its trunk to consume it and then discards the peel. The shaking and peeling operation is repeated until there is no or very little pulp inside the peel, and any remaining pulp is repeatedly inspected with the trunk tip.

The article asserts that Pang Pha avoids eating brown bananas and exclusively eats yellow ones. Pang Pha accepts brown bananas, although she usually discards them after a cursory inspection.

In a statement, Michael Brecht of the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience at Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin, said, “We discovered a very unique behavior”.

“Rather than a single behavioral element, what distinguishes Pang Pha’s banana peeling is a combination of factors such as skillfulness, speed, individuality, and the putatively human origin”, he added.
