Taking oath as the 15th CM of Himachal, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu  would be accompanied by Mukesh Agnihotri as his deputy. The ceremony takes place in Shimla today in the presence of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge.

Ex-Congress state chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu takes oath today two days after the Congress retained power from BJP by winning forty seats in the 68-member Assembly of Himachal Pradesh. On Saturday the Congress leadership named Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu  as the next Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister during a CLP meeting held in Shimla. Leader of Opposition in the outgoing Assembly, Mukesh Agnihotri has been appointed as the Deputy CM.

Himachal Pradesh witnesses formation of the new state government today with swearing-in ceremony in the presence of top Congress leaders namely Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi along with the national party president Mallikarjun Kharge.  This has been seen as a major setback to state party president Pratibha Singh with Sukhu as the party choice of CM-ship. Pratibha Singha already had openly staked claim to the top state chair invoking the legacy of the five-time CM Vibhadra Singh, who died last four months ago in the month July.

Immediately after being named as the Chief Minister of the state, Sukhu promised an honest and clean government. He says, it is his responsibility to fulfil the promises made to the people of Himachal Pradesh by the Congress party. “We aspire to change the system, give me some time. We are going to work hard, bringing in a new thinking along with a new system,” Sukhu said.
