Wrestlers’ Protest: “We want their time, support, and co-operation so that the matter can be settled soon”, says Anurag Thakur

Anurag Thakur announced the formation of an oversight committee to investigate the allegations leveled against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and promised that justice would be served within four weeks.

Jabalpur(Madhya Pradesh): Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Gen VK Singh stated that The wrestlers’ Protest against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is more political and other aspects are lesser known.

The protest that has been called-off now, was organized by some renowned sports professionals including Olympic and Commonwealth Games (CWG) medalists for women wrestlers had put serious allegations of sexual harassment on the president and coaches of the WFI.

“I would not like to speak on this. My personal opinion is that the matter is more political and other aspects are lesser known”, said MoS  Gen(Retd) VK Singh.

The wrestlers’ revolt was broken off on Saturday with Union  Sports Minister Anurag Thakur declaring that Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh will ‘step back’ until the investigation by the ‘supervision committee’ is completed.

Anurag Thakur announced the formation of an oversight committee to investigate the allegations leveled against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and promised that justice would be served within four weeks.

“Concerning the demands of the sportspersons, we have decided to move ahead with an oversight committee, whose names will be announced tomorrow. The investigation will be completed in four weeks, and all allegations leveled will be thoroughly investigated before making a final decision,” Thakur said during a press conference at his residence in the national capital early Saturday.

Moreover speaking to the media persons, Thakur announced that the players should put their demands forward and a thorough discussion will take place. “We’ll send a notice to the wrestling Federation of India when the charges were leveled and asked them to reply within 72 hours and they did.

Simultaneously, we want their time support, and cooperation so that the matter can be settled soon,” he added.

Brij Bhushan denies the allegation

Earlier, Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Ravi Dahiya, and Deepak Punia had written to Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha over complaints of alleged sexual harassment against the Wrestling Federation of India president. On the other hand, on the allegations leveled against him, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said, “I will not resign. Politics is being done against me at the behest of Congress leader Deepender Hooda. These few players are the ones whose career is over.

However, Brij Bhusan Sharan Singh refused the allegations and claimed he would expose the ‘political conspiracy’ in a press conference in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda Yesterday.
