Karnatka Minister Priyank Kharge said the previous Basavaraj Bommai government’s anti-cow slaughter bill in Karnataka is a hurdle in state’s progress and increases a lot of financial burdens.

He also made clear that not just cow slaughter or hijab any rule by BJP government if found regressive and an impediment to state’s economic and social growth will be revoked. He further added that, the focus of the Congress government is “not politics, just economics. The anti-cow slaughter bill was drawn up only to please the BJP’s “bosses in Nagpur”.
Cannot agree to this expenditure
He further added, “This bill may be reconsidered in view of huge financial implications. We cannot agree to this kind of expenditure when we are struggling to make ends meet. The next two years, we expect a contraction in budget size and the cabinet’s decision can be put on hold.”
Rs 70 spend on each animal
Mr Kharge, who handles rural development and panchayati raj in the new Congress government led by Siddaramaiah, said the BJP’s other cow-protection initiatives were also a financial liability. He said that, “According to BJP expenditure on every animal goes up to Rs 70 each day and i don’t know how they reached to that number which means a total of ₹ 5,240 crore to feed the state’s 1.7 lakh livestock.”
Regressive laws will be repealed
He also mentioned, “We are looking at the economic growth of Karnataka… farmers, traders, MSMEs… we have got a huge mandate against this ideology. We have got a huge mandate to keep Karnataka on the path of progress… as a government is it not my priority to keep every child in school? If a certain policy is regressive and is keeping my children out of school, will I keep it or repeal it? “Congress won 135 out of 244 seats in Karnataka elections and has promised to take strong actions against organizations like ‘Bajrang Dal’ who spread hatred among different communities.
