Training On Fish Preservation, Storage, And Packaging Was Provided In Sanis And Wokha

On Saturday, the Sanis, Wokha, two-day specialised skill training programme on post harvest management and processing of fish came to an end. The program’s goal was to improve participants’ knowledge and abilities in the field of fish processing. It was organised by the District Administration, Wokha, in conjunction with the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Kohima..

According to Wokha Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, participants were exposed to a wide range of issues on post-harvest management and unique fish processing methods over the course of the programme. All participants received a comprehensive learning experience thanks to the sessions’ knowledgeable instructors, who shared their vast expertise and real-world experience.

The discussion covered a number of packaging-related topics, including the choice of suitable materials, good hygiene habits, and creative packaging techniques.

Yanthan outlined the numerous difficulties experienced in packaging fish items and offered workable solutions through engrossing talks and interactive demonstrations. The best practises for preserving fish throughout transit, storage, and presentation were explained to the participants. They were also exposed to cutting-edge packaging techniques and materials that can lengthen the shelf life and improve the aesthetics of fish products, boosting their market value.

The successful completion of the training programme at Sanis marked an important milestone in strengthening the Fish-One District One Product (ODOP) initiative in Wokha, according to the press release from Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Wokha. The programme sought to increase the capacity of people working in the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME Scheme) beneficiaries by providing participants with advanced skills and knowledge in fish processing. It is anticipated that this training will help the fishing industry in Wokha grow and improve overall, generating job opportunities and enhancing the local community’s standard of living.

The KI Organization’s Thungbeni Kikon conveyed her sincere gratitude to each and every participant for their active participation and dedication during the training programme. It was admirable how enthusiastic and committed they were to improving their abilities and helping Wokha’s fishing sector grow.
