Delhi Ao Community Celebrates Moatsu

Ao community of Delhi celebrated the Moatsu festival on May 6 at Vasundra Vatika Lawns, Delhi Cantonment.

The festival was organized by the Delhi Ao Senso Telongjem (DAST) with the objective to conserve the traditions and customs of the Ao Naga culture.

A press release by DAST president, Imsenchuba Pongen informed that the celebration was entirely based on the ancestral village practice of celebration with an aim to impart to the younger generation the authentic practices of tradition.

The celebration started with a demonstration of the traditional method of fire-making followed by traditional folk songs and dances.

The event also witnessed a special cultural dance by the Ao youth of Kishangarh, a folk song by the Ao Nagaland Armed Police, Delhi, a folk song and dance by Delhi Ao women and a special song by the Ao Choir.

Hands-on sessions to transmit cultural and heritage values to young children were also conducted where all Ao children including in-laws children were benefited. Besides the traditional sessions, volleyball league matches were played between various elder groups.

At the celebration, DAST president narrated the rationale of the festival and the celebration ended with a traditional feast.
