The third day of Chaitra Navratri is dedicated to Maa Chandraghanta. She is the Goddess of Manipura Chakra which is ruled by the Sun. Goddess Chandraghanta rides on the tiger that represents ‘dharma’. On the third day maa Chandraghanta is worshipped by the devotees.

Goddess Chandraghanta

Chandraghanta is a Sanskrit term that refers to “one with a bell-shaped half-moon. Maa Durga’s third incarnation, Maa Chandraghanta adorns a half-moon on her forehead.  Hindu Mythology holds the belief that Maa Durga began wearing a half-moon on her forehead after she got married. 

Maa Chandraghanta guards her devotees against evil and stands for bravery and strength. She has a third eye on her forehead and is the Rudra roop of Maa Durga. 

The color associated with the third day of Chaitra Navratri is green. The green color represents new beginnings and growth. It symbolizes nature and evokes a sense of growth, fertility, peace, and serenity.

Place the goddess idol on a chowki or table and bathe it with Kesar(Saffron), Gangaajal (holy water), and kewra (floral water). After this, dress the goddess in golden-colored clothes. Offer her yellow-colored flowers and lotus. The prasad should comprise of sweets, panchamrit, and mishri (rock sugar).
