Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is in the process of creating a text-based application that aims to directly compete with Twitter according to reports. The company is said to be conducting tests for this project, involving celebrities and influencers. In fact, an undisclosed source revealed that the app has been quietly available to a limited group of creators for several months.

Lia Haberman, an instructor of social and influencer marketing at UCLA, has shared a preliminary screenshot of a description for the upcoming app. According to her, the app, which is separate from Instagram but allows users to link their accounts, is anticipated to be released as early as June. The screenshot also indicates future plans to ensure compatibility with other Twitter competitor apps, such as Mastodon.

The upcoming app, as described by Haberman, will allow users to share text updates of up to 500 characters and share photos and videos. It offers the advantage of direct interaction with the audience and peers, while seamlessly integrating with Instagram for easy connection to current followers. The app will also be compatible with other platforms like Mastodon, expanding its accessibility. Importantly, user safety and security will be prioritized.

In terms of security, the app guarantees the transfer of blocked account lists from Instagram, ensuring a consistent user experience. Furthermore, it will enforce the same Community Guidelines as Meta which is the parent company of Instagram, applies to its other applications. This commitment aims to create a safe and authentic environment for users.

Meta highlights the app’s capacity to seamlessly integrate with other platforms like Mastodon, often seen as a competitor. This compatibility offers users the convenience of easily discovering, following, and interacting with profiles and content across various platforms, effectively expanding their reach.
