On Tuesday, Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister, stated that the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) has played a vital role in supporting approximately 664,000 families, who have received a total of ₹13,290 crore in claims.

Sitharaman observed on the occasion of the eighth anniversary of the Jan Suraksha schemes, comprising of the Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), that their objective is to extend vital financial services to disadvantaged individuals, with the aim of minimizing their financial insecurity.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed on Twitter that the JanSuraksha schemes, which were introduced eight years ago, have served as a crucial means of aid for millions of Indians, affording them a dependable social security cover.

Sitharaman mentioned that the simplified claim process under the PMSBY scheme has enabled expedited settlement of claims, with over 115,000 families having received claims worth Rs 2,302 crore.

The most recent statistics reveal that until April 26, 2023, 162 million individuals have enrolled in PMJJBY, while PMSBY and APY have garnered 342 million and 52 million enrollments, respectively.
