Twitter CEO Elon Musk Wednesday said that the Turkey government has informed the company that access to the microblogging site will be re-enabled shortly.
Twitter Chief Executive Elon Musk tweeted, “Twitter has been informed by the Turkish government that access will be reenabled shortly”, through his official Twitter handle.

Netblocks took to Twitter to inform the update. Company tweeted, “Update: Metrics confirm access to Twitter is being restored in #Turkey following hours of filtering. The restoration comes after authorities held a meeting with Twitter to “remind Twitter of its obligations” on content takedowns and disinformation”, through its official Twitter handle.

Netblocks reported earlier that, “Real-time network data show Twitter has been restricted in Turkey; the filtering is applied on major internet providers and comes as the public comes to rely on the service in the aftermath of a series of deadly earthquakes”.

Earlier this week, a massive earthquake of magnitude 7.8 hit both Syria and Turkey. This was followed by two more earthquakes, of magnitude 7.6 and 6.0, striking Turkey. The confirmed death count rose to 9,057 in Turkey on Wednesday, and in Syria had climbed to at least 2,950, according to the government and a rescue service operating in the rebel-held northwest.
Turkish people since then have taken to Twitter since the earthquake to post information about loved ones they cannot reach, reports of collapsed buildings in the area, and coordination for aid.
