Army, Navy And IAF To Hold Joint War Games In The Years Ahead

NEW DELHI: The Army, Navy and IAF will now endeavour to conduct their combat exercises or war games in a genuinely joint manner to build an integrated war-fighting machinery and theatre commands in the years ahead.

Defence officials on Monday said it has been decided that all exercises in future should have elements from all three services, instead of the generally solitary ones that are held as of now.

This will be reflected in the major “Vayu Shakti” war games of the IAF to be held next year. “A lot of the exercises held since January in the eastern theatre facing China have been joint ones between the Army and the IAF, as also CAPFs and some civil organisations,” an official said.

Last month, for instance, the Army and IAF had conducted drills for “multi-mode insertion of strategic forces” into the eastern theatre amid the continuing heightened tensions along the 3,488-km Line of Actual Control with China, which stretches from eastern to Arunachal Pradesh.
