Gangster turned Politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj on Saturday. The shooting took place near Prayagraj’s Dhoomanganj Police Station. According to reports three individuals opened fire on them while they were talking to the media.

On Thursday, his son Asad was encountered whose last rites were carried out on Saturday without Atiq’s presence.

Atiq and Ashraf were about to speak to the media while going for the medical test when the murder was caught live on television. As they collapsed on the ground, sounds of indiscriminate fire were heard.

Uttar Pradesh Police were questioning Atiq and Ashraf in their custody on Saturday at the Dhoomanganj police station after getting a seven-day remand by the judiciary.

Visuals of the incident show Atiq Ahmed and his brother walking while talking to reporters when someone shot the gangster in the head. The next moment his brother is also shot dead.
The three attackers identified as Sunny, Lovelesh, and Arun have surrendered to the police but the question of security concerns remains unanswered. The medical checkup was part of daily routine, while speaking to the media, Atiq and Ashraf were in tight police security, still, the killers managed to shoot from a close range and in front of a dozen cameras.

The whole incident seems planted and fishy and raises a number of questions – how was that security breach possible? How did the killers reach that close to the Ahmed brothers with guns? Why did police remain still for the next couple of seconds when this happened? How can the administration manage this level of negligence? Was it a poorly written script of UP police or a mishappening in real?

Yogi government and his UP police need to answer such hundreds of questions from the people of this democratic state.
