A special investigation team (SIT) has been established by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into the ethnic violence in Manipur, which has resulted in the deaths of over 100 people so far, and six cases have been filed in connection with it. 10 CBI employees work in the SIT under a DIG-rank officer, according to news source ANI.
New violence erupted in Manipur
With allegations of three deaths by suspected rebels in the Khoken hamlet, which is located between Kangpokpi and the Imphal West district, there was new violence in the state on Friday.
Rebels dressed in Army fatigues
Police reports claim that the attackers were dressed in Army fatigues and drove what seemed to be military-style vehicles. According to reports, they went to the village and opened fire on the locals.
Amit Shah visited Manipur
Union Home Minister Amit Shah went on a four-day visit to Manipur on May 29. He presided over a significant gathering that included N. Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, and members of his government. He met people from the tribal Kuki and non-tribal Meitei populations over the course of the following three days who have been engaged violence since a rally on May 3.
ATSU protested
The All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) coordinated the protest in opposition to the Metei’s request for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. Shah requested peace for 15 days in the state so that he might establish a committee to develop a long-term political solution for the Manipur tribal people who are calling for a separate administration.
Shah promised CBI investigation
Shah promised a judicial inquiry and CBI investigation into this month’s long violence at his meeting with tribal leaders. He also gave the tribal leaders his word that the state would not meddle in the investigation.
