Delhi Police raid on the illegal casino

A clean chit has been given to the AATS team accused of the transgression of crores of rupees found on the spot during raids on illegal casinos in Jyoti Nagar, Delhi. However, even before the investigation started, the Regional Joint Commissioner of Police had appreciated the action of the accused team.

The District DCP has given a clean chit to the AATS team which raided the illegal casino running in Jyoti Nagar police station area of North East district. On the orders of the Commissioner of Police, the investigation of the case was handed over to the North Eastern District Police. However, even before the investigation started, the Joint Commissioner of Police had appreciated the action of the accused team. After which it was believed that after the so-called investigation, the accused team would be given a clean chit. Police spokesperson DCP Suman Nalwa says that the District Deputy Commissioner of Police has informed that the allegations have not been proved in the investigation of this case.

This is the case

The AATS of the North East District raided the fifth floor of Capital Residency on Wazirabad Road, Delhi late night on February 11, 2023 and caught the people running the illegal casino. 41 Accused were arrested from the spot. According to the case registered in Jyoti Nagar police station, recovery of about five lakh rupees was also shown from the spot. According to sources, this casino was running with the connivance of Jyoti Nagar police. This was the reason that there was a scuffle between Jyoti Nagar police station chief and AATS in-charge SI Balbir who reached the spot after the tip. But in this case, the top officials suspended the beat officer of the area ASI Yogesh Kumar and gave a clean chit to rest of the people.

This was the allegation

The accused caught betting in this casino are residents of Karol Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, Rohini, Adarsh Nagar, Gandhinagar, Geeta Colony, Shahdara, Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. According to police sources, the AATS team had recovered about Rs 2.5 crore from them. But in the registered case, reference has been made only about the recovery of five lakh rupees.

SI was running AATS

An experienced and active police inspector is appointed in-charge of the special staff and AATS in the operation cell working in every police district of Delhi. But due to personal influence among the top officials, Sub-Inspector Balbir was made in-charge of North East District AATS.

Preparatory action was taken

According to the information, the AATS team was aware that the gamblers present in illegal casinos posses crores of rupees. That’s why he did not inform the ACP-level officer about the raid ignoring the legal requirement. Not only this, the video recording of the action was also not done. SI Balbir was leading the raid.

Already given clean chit

An officer of the Police Headquarters brought the matter to the notice of Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora. On his orders, the investigation of the case was handed over to the North Eastern District Police. But Chhaya Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Police, Eastern Range, ignored the order of the Commissioner of Police to investigate and she praised the action of the accused AATS team even before the results could come out. After this, there already, were speculations that the accused team would get a clean chit.

Questions on investigation too

Sources say that in the case filed, claims that the ACP Gokulpuri, was supervising the action, but actually he was called after being tipped off after the raid. This can also be proved in the investigation of the ACP’s location and CCTV footage. In such a situation, the question arises that why the action is not being taken seriously which ignored video recording and was without the supervision of the ACP? But the North Eastern District Police did not keep these important aspects in view.
