A day after Congress leader Digvijaya Singh thanked Germany for taking notice of Rahul Gandhi’s removal from the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal stated on Friday that “we don’t need endorsements from abroad” because “our fight is our own”.

Mr. Singh thanked Germany’s foreign ministry and Richard Walker, Chief International Editor of Deutsche Welle, for taking note of how Democracy is being undermined in India through Rahul Gandhi’s persecution.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh tweeted, “Thank you Germany Foreign Affairs Ministry and Richard Walker @rbsw for taking note of how Democracy is being compromised in India through the persecution of @RahulGandhi”, through his official Twitter handle.  He also tagged a Walker tweet and a video about the German Foreign Ministry’s reaction to Gandhi’s disqualification.

Kapil Sibal, who left the Congress last year, disagreed with Mr. Singh, claiming that “we don’t need crutches to walk ahead”.

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal tweeted, “Digvijaya Singh: Thanked Berlin for “taking note of how democracy is being compromised in India”…My thought: We don’t need crutches to walk ahead. We don’t need endorsements from abroad. Our fight is our own and in that, we are together”, through his official Twitter handle.

Sibal, a Union minister during the UPA 1 and 2 governments, left the Congress in May last year and was elected to the Rajya Sabha as an independent with the support of the Samajwadi Party.

Mr. Sibal recently launched ‘Insaaf’ a non-electoral platform aimed at combating alleged injustice in the country.

On Thursday, the BJP used Singh’s remarks thanking Germany to accuse the Congress of “inviting foreign powers to interfere in India’s internal affairs”.
