Elvis Ali Hazarika, a well-known Assamese swimmer, made history by becoming the first person from that region of Assam to successfully cross the English Channel twice.
Hazarika reached this incredible milestone by swimming in a relay from England’s Samphire to France’s Calais and back, covering an astounding distance of 78 kilometres in an amazing 31 hours.
Hazarika’s path to this historic success was characterised by unflinching will and unrelenting effort, pushing himself to work harder each day.
He overcame many obstacles that were put in his path during the gruelling swim after hours of planning and relentless practise.
The terrifying hazards of the daring swim included running into jellyfish, dolphins, seals, and the unrelenting attack of saltwater.
During their arduous trek, Hazarika and his colleagues encountered strong currents and turbulent weather as well.
He eventually succeeded in finishing the swim, nevertheless, and became the first Assamese to successfully cross the English Channel.
Hazarika has finished a number of additional channels, notably the North Channel, in addition to the English Channel.
