Asad Ahmed last rites in Prayagraj
Gangster Atiq Ahmed’s son Slain Asad Ahmed will be buried in Prayagraj at the family’s burial ground today i.e. on Friday. This ground was used by the don-turned-politician family. Asad will be buried next to the resting place of his grandfather, said the sources.
Asad’s last rites are to be done in Prayagraj
On Thursday, Asad and Atiq’s close aide Ghulam were gunned down by Uttar Pradesh police in an encounter in Jhansi. Both the deceased were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case and had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on their heads. Moreover, Atiq’s son, Asad was last seen in a CCTV footage doing rounds, where he was seen attacking Pal. Since, then he was on the run and escaping from the police hunt.
Earlier, Asad’s mortal remains were supposed to be handed over to maternal relatives in Jhansi but there were some last-minute changes in the plan, said the sources. Presently, his body has been brought to Prayagraj by the police and then handed over to distant relatives as his father Atiq, uncle and brothers are behind bars.
As per the officials, the deceased grave has been dug at the same ‘kabristan’ in Kasari Masari village in the Chakiya area of Prayagraj, where his grandfather was laid to rest. Whilst, Atiq’s close aide Ghulam’s family refused to accept his body, saying that they abide by the law and cannot accept a criminal’s body. Moreover, a relative claimed that someone had “brainwashed” him.

Atiq pleaded to attend his son’s funeral
Despite several requests to the officials, the jailed Atiq will not be able to attend his son’s last rites. A Prayagraj court sent both Atiq and his brother Ashraf to 7-day judicial custody on Thursday in connection with the triple murders of lawyer Umesh Pal and his two police guards.
The don-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were grilled separately on the intervening nights of Thursday and Friday, said the sources. The questioning began at Prayagraj’s Dhumanganj police station around 1 am and continued till 7 in the morning.
Further, the sources said that father Atiq wept for his son and kept saying he and his family have been ruined. He pleaded with the officers for permission to attend the last rites of Asad.
The gangster-turned-politician apparently broke down again and repeated chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s warning. “Mitti mein mil gaye hum (We’ve been reduced to dust),” an inconsolable Atiq said.
Atiq further said, “It’s all my fault. Asad had nothing to do with any of it. No one can take the responsibility for my young sons and brothers.” Sources quoted the gangster as saying that the world’s biggest sorrow is when an elderly father has to lift the body of a young son on his shoulders. Atiq also requested officials to let him meet his wife as their son was no more.
Atiq and Ashraf are presently kept at an undisclosed location in Prayagraj. Sources said that some raid based on their inputs is possible on Friday. The two are in police custody till the evening of April 17.
